The team at Drago Entertainment have released a small piece of technical information that they are currently working on as part of the upcoming game UI overhaul to Otherland – a switch from the UDP to TCP protocol for client-server communications.
These days however there are several problems with using UDP for an MMORPG, chief among which is the fact that more and more internet service providers put protocols like UDP on a lower priority in favor of higher priority for TCP traffic. This in turn often results in increased latency or lag or even connection issues or dropped connections due to time-outs.
There is no release date planned as of yet, though it is reportedly scheduled to be at some point this year – Drago believe that the change will be a big help in mitigating the connection issues that some testers have encountered.
