The studio behind Ark: Survival Evolved has announced that this week will see the early release of it’s new MMO entitled ATLAS – a pirate-themed MMO that is making bold claims for simultaneous users. The title is scheduled to launch on Steam Early Access on December 13th.
ATLAS will host up to 40,000 players exploring the same Globe simultaneously, with an unprecedented scale of cooperation and conflict! Stake your claim in this endless open world as you conquer territory, construct ships, search for buried treasure, assemble forts, plunder settlements and hire crew to join your powerful growing armada. Start small then expand your spheres of influence from a small island, up to an unstoppable pirate empire that spans across the oceans. Wage battle against enemy fleets as you singlehandedly command large ships of war using the captaining system (or divide up to the responsibilities among your trusted lieutenants), or take control of any weapon directly with your own character.
The announcement, that was sprung at The Game Awards 2018, also came with a “launch” trailer that shows off some of the gameplay – featuring mythical beasts and ocean-going combat. Lets watch, shall we…
Wildcard expect ATLAS to be in early access for around two years, during which time they will look to gather “feedback, insight, and creativity of the game players to build on that foundation and balance the game optimally over a period of time”.
