After an earlier report on the gaming industry site GamesIndustry.biz with rumors of impending layoffs for the NCSOFT company ArenaNet (focused on the publishing division), it has now been confirmed that some staff reduction is planned in a statement to that site.
“We can confirm that due to the cancellation of unannounced projects, ArenaNet will make staff reductions,” the statement reads. “This is part of a larger organizational restructuring within NCSOFT in the west, but the Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 game services will not be affected, nor is any upcoming game content canceled.”
ArenaNet also took to the public Guild Wars 2 forums to reassure the players of the title, ahead of any additional official announcements.
We know you have a lot of questions about the future of Guild Wars 2. We want to share with you what to expect moving forward for the game. First and foremost, we are still fully committed to all of our players and ongoing support of the game. We will be moving directly from Living World Season 4 into Season 5 as promised, and we plan to continue a regular cadence of updates and releases.
We know Guild Wars 2 is important to you, and as our players, you are important to us. Rest assured that we are still working to add great new content to the game. We are deeply grateful to all of you for your support during this difficult time.
Some employees have also offered additional details on Twitter – notably Lead Game Designer Jennifer “Gaohmee” Scheurle stated that “We are not being shuffled out right away, decisions are pending. ArenaNet has been very very transparent with us today in the meetings, which is something I appreciate very much”.
